Walk For Water Club Raising Money For Well For Third World Community

Not many people realize it, but people in Nation Ford High School are changing the world through the Walk for Water Club. The Walk for Water Club has raised $1,200 so far this year to build a well in a third world country.

On the first Tuesday of each month the Walk for Water Club meets to plan how they will raise the remaining $4,800 to be able to pay for the well. The funds go to Drop in the Bucket, an national organization that will choose the community in need, build the well, and maintain it.

The club has held fundraisers so far this year, including Spirit Nights, Food Truck Friday, T-shirts Sales, Valentines Grams, and a GoFundMe account. The club is currently planning another Food Truck Friday this spring.

The club has recently been reinstated.

“Lydia Peterson came to me, asking if I would be the sponsor,” club sponsor Jennifer Sams said. “Her sister created the club, and she told me she wanted to re-establish it. She told me the premise of the club, and offered to help her. She had a few friends that were interested in starting it as well.”

Thanks to Lydia Peterson, her sister, and the rest of the Walk for Water Club, a third world country will be getting easier access to water.

“It is a great cause and I have a great group of students I get to work with,” Ms. Sams said.
